The Youth International India program is a one-month experiential learning travel program in India, beginning with a 1-day orientation in New York, NY.  The Fall 2023 program will run from November 25 to December 23, 2022.

Detailed Itinerary: November 25 to December 23

Nov. 25 to 26: New York:  Team members meet up in New York City for one day and one night. They take part in a series of orientation workshops on topics including health, safety, cultural sensitivity, and team building, in preparation for their India adventure.  On Nov. 26, the team flies from New York to India, arriving in Delhi on Nov. 27.

Nov. 27 to 30: Delhi:  Time to explore India’s bustling capital city, including sites such as Jama Masjid, the Red Fort, Humayun’s tomb, the National Museum, Raj Ghat, the Gandhi Museum, and city markets.  On Nov. 30, travel by train to Agra.

Nov. 30 to Dec. 1: Agra:  Visits to the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.  On Dec. 1, travel by bus from Agra to Jaipur.

Dec. 1 to 6: Jaipur:  This week the team will live with host families in the colorful capital city of Rajasthan.  Days start with a yoga class, followed by a survival Hindi language lesson.  Each day is rounded out with excursions to local sites and attending workshops on various aspects of India’s culture and history.  On Dec. 6 travel by overnight train from Jaipur to Jaisalmer.

Dec. 7 to 12: Jaisalmer and Desert Camel Safari: The team has two days to explore the dramatic city of Jaisalmer, before setting off into the Thar desert on camel back. For three days, the team learns first-hand about desert life while out on camel safari.  Overnight bus to Udaipur on Dec. 12.

Dec. 13 to 14: Udaipur: The team has a day and a half to begin exploring one of India’s most culturally rich and romantic cities. They also visit a local NGO for an introductory talk on development issues in local Adivasi (tribal) communities.  On the afternoon of Dec. 14, travel by bus to a nearby tribal village.

Dec. 14 to 20: Village Home Stay: During this week, team members live with host families in a small rural village near Udaipur. Time is spent helping families with household chores, working in the fields, and taking part in other aspects of typical daily life. Team members also volunteer on community projects, which include painting and renovation work, as well as teaching and running educational activities for children at the local school.  On Dec. 20, return by bus to Udaipur.

Dec. 20 to 22: Udaipur:  Time to continue exploring Udaipur. The team also attends a workshop on Batik art.  Reflection time on the Indian experience.  Fly from Udaipur to Delhi on Dec. 22.

Dec. 22 to 23: Delhi:  Final time to explore Delhi.  Program wrap up and celebrations.  On Dec. 23 fly from Delhi to New York.
