| The Youth International program combines the experiences of: International Travel and Inter-Cultural Exchange, Adventure, Community Service, and Home Stays. Through a balanced combination of these experiences, each Youth International team member is set up for an intense and dynamic first hand education about the region in which they are traveling. At the same time, they are presented with a unique environment and opportunity for self discovery. International Travel and Inter-Cultural Exchange
The world becomes your classroom, and experience your greatest teacher as you explore exotic countries such as: Thailand, India, Vietnam, Nepal, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, and Namibia.
Live, work, talk, eat, laugh and play with the real people who define the many different cultures you will encounter: a Bolivian farmer, a merchant from Bangkok, a homeless person from the streets of Calcutta, an African tribesman. Go on spiritual quests. Meditate while on retreat with Tibetan Monks. Participate in Tribal rituals. Explore ancient temples. View some of the most spectacular and exciting sites in the world from the Taj Mahal, to the wildlife of the Masai Mara, to Machu Picchu. Explore some of the world's greatest cities: Bangkok, Delhi, Kathmandu, Hanoi, LaPaz, Cuzco, Quito, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, and more. Cover almost every imaginable terrain from snow-capped mountains to deserts to rainforests. Adventure Trek in the Himalayan Mountains, to a peak on Mt. Kenya, across ancient mountain footpaths connecting remote tribal villages, or along the Inca Trail through the Andes Mountains to Machu Picchu. Search for wild animals on safari in the Kenyan savanna, sail through the Galapagos Islands, or canoe down a river as you penetrate the jungles of the Amazon Basin. Explore the magic of the underwater world while snorkeling in premier locations and enjoying some of the most pristine beaches on the planet. These are only a few highlights on trips which hold new adventures around every corner. Share these adventures with a like-minded, yet diverse group of up to fourteen people between 18 and 25 years of age. Develop lifelong friendships. Learn to work, live, play, and grow together, actively creating your own small traveling community. Community Service Lend a hand and make a difference. Youth International is not a guided tour. Rather than gliding through other countries as though on a glass ship, participants become personally involved in the issues and needs of the communities in which they visit. A path toward the richest possible understanding of a culture and a true sense of global perspective and social responsibility. Typical community service projects that Youth International involves itself with include: building and renovating schools and homes in poor areas of Thailand, assisting the sick and destitute in Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity clinics in India, teaching English to Tibetan refugees, helping to build an orphanage in Bolivia, doing conservation work in the Ecuadorian rainforest, and constructing water tanks so that tribal communities in Africa have clean drinking water. Home Stays Live in the homes of people from a variety of classes and cultures. Understand their life by living it yourself. There will be at least one home stay in most countries, and sometimes more. On average, participants live with host families for about one third of their trip. Home stays will often be extremely basic and in remote villages where there is no electricity, running water, or other basic amenities. Team members will also find themselves camping, sleeping out in the open, in temples, on trains and more! *For more background on Youth International click this link: About Youth International
